Split-S Maneuver: The Fastest Way to Drop and Reverse

Steps to Execute a Split-S Maneuver

Here’s a step-by-step guide to performing the Split-S maneuver with precision and control:

Step 1: Begin in Forward Flight

  • Start by flying forward at a moderate speed. Make sure you have enough altitude to perform the maneuver, as the Split-S requires vertical space to drop safely.
  • Throttle Management: As you approach the point where you want to initiate the Split-S, maintain a steady throttle but be prepared to reduce it during the maneuver.

Step 2: Perform a Half-Roll

  • When you reach the point where you want to reverse direction, move the right stick (roll control) to the left or right to initiate a half-roll.
  • The half-roll will invert the drone, leaving it flying upside down with the camera pointed at the sky.
  • Throttle Reduction: As the drone inverts, reduce throttle to avoid gaining altitude or overshooting the descent.

Step 3: Begin the Half-Loop (Pitch Back)

  • Once the drone is inverted, pull back on the pitch stick (right stick) to start the half-loop. The drone will begin to dive and complete a downward arc, transitioning to level flight in the opposite direction.
  • Be mindful of your throttle during the dive—too much throttle will make the descent too fast, while too little throttle can cause the drone to drop too quickly.

Step 4: Level Out and Continue Flying

  • As the drone completes the half-loop and levels out, center the pitch and roll sticks to stabilize the drone.
  • Throttle Up: Increase throttle as needed to maintain altitude and control after the maneuver is complete.
