Drone Regulations in India
Regulatory Body: Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA)
Drone Classes and Requirements:
India divides drones into five weight-based categories, ranging from Nano (<250g) to Large (>25kg).
Key Requirements:
- Registration and Licensing: All drones except Nano drones require Unmanned Aircraft Operator Permits (UAOP) for commercial use.
- Remote Pilot License: Pilots must have a Remote Pilot License issued by the DGCA for all categories except Nano and Micro drones used for recreational purposes.
- No-Fly Zones: Restricted areas include airports, military installations, and national parks.
- Altitude Limit: Drones must stay below 400 feet and maintain visual line of sight.
Example:
An agricultural drone spraying crops over large fields would need to meet Medium drone registration requirements, as well as obtain a Remote Pilot License and adhere to no-fly zone restrictions.
