Drone Piloting: Basic Concepts

Understanding Drone Dynamics

At this level, you need to grasp more about how drones behave in the air. Drones, or UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), rely on:

  • Thrust: Provided by the rotors, this lifts the drone off the ground.
  • Yaw, Pitch, and Roll: These are the three axes on which a drone can rotate:
    • Yaw: Rotating the drone left or right on the vertical axis.
    • Pitch: Tilting the drone forward or backward.
    • Roll: Tilting the drone left or right on the horizontal axis.

Example:

Think of your drone like a helicopter. Yaw is when the whole helicopter rotates on its axis, pitch is when it points its nose down or up, and roll is when it tips sideways.
