Flight Dynamics in Drone Piloting
Inertial Measurement Units (IMU)
The IMU is a key sensor in drones that measures the drone's acceleration and orientation. It includes:
- Accelerometers: Measure changes in velocity (acceleration) and detect tilt angles.
- Gyroscopes: Measure rotational speed and help maintain stability during flight.
Role of the IMU:
The IMU helps the drone stay level and balanced by constantly feeding data to the flight controller, which adjusts motor speeds to maintain the desired orientation and stability.
Example:
When you pitch the drone forward to fly, the IMU detects the change in angle and ensures that the drone maintains stability while moving.
