Matty Flip: A Signature Freestyle FPV Move
What is a Matty Flip?
The Matty Flip is one of the most complex and visually impressive maneuvers in freestyle FPV (First-Person View) flying. Named after drone pilot Matty Stuntz, who popularized the trick, the Matty Flip involves flying backward under an obstacle, pitching the drone forward, and performing an inverted flip over the object. This advanced acrobatic maneuver requires precise control over the drone’s pitch, yaw, and throttle to execute smoothly.
The Matty Flip is a stunning addition to any freestyle routine and adds a unique flow to your flight sequences, but it requires a lot of practice and excellent command of your drone’s Acro Mode.
What is a Matty Flip?
The Matty Flip combines an inverted dive with a backward pass, resulting in a dynamic and exciting maneuver. The key challenge in performing a Matty Flip is maintaining control while flying backward, which feels unnatural to many pilots, especially when performing inverted tricks.
Key Characteristics of the Matty Flip:
- Backward Entry: Unlike most tricks where you approach an obstacle head-on, the Matty Flip begins with the drone flying backward.
- Inverted Flip: The drone performs a forward flip, but the pilot must manage throttle and pitch to keep the drone in control while passing over and around an obstacle.
- Precision Control: The maneuver demands a high level of skill to avoid overshooting or drifting during the backward approach and the subsequent flip.
Example:
Imagine flying backward toward a tree, performing a flip while inverted to pass over the top of the tree, and then smoothly leveling out on the other side. The drone creates a graceful loop around the object while keeping momentum.
