Matty Flip: A Signature Freestyle FPV Move
Advanced Matty Flip Techniques
Once you’ve mastered the basic Matty Flip, you can add complexity and flair to your routine by incorporating advanced variations and techniques.
3.1 Tight Matty Flip
A tight Matty Flip involves performing the maneuver in a more confined space, such as between trees, poles, or narrow obstacles. This requires precise control over the flip angle and throttle management to ensure the drone stays close to the object while completing the flip.
How to Perform a Tight Matty Flip:
- Reduce Flip Radius: Use sharper pitch inputs to tighten the loop over the obstacle. This reduces the distance the drone travels during the flip.
- Throttle Control: Manage throttle carefully to avoid overshooting the flip. Too much throttle will push the drone too far upward, while too little will cause the drone to drop too quickly during the flip.
Example:
A tight Matty Flip around a lamppost or small tree requires faster, more precise inputs, making the flip look tighter and more aggressive.
3.2 Inverted Matty Flip with Yaw
Adding yaw to the Matty Flip creates a more complex, twisting motion that adds an extra level of difficulty and style to the maneuver. This variation involves rotating the drone around its yaw axis while completing the flip.
How to Add Yaw to the Matty Flip:
- Apply Yaw During the Flip: As the drone inverts, apply a small amount of yaw (left stick) to rotate the drone while it performs the flip.
- Control the Twist: Be careful not to over-rotate during the yaw twist. You want the yaw motion to complement the flip, not disrupt it.
Example:
A Matty Flip with yaw over a tree or building creates a corkscrew-like effect, making the maneuver look more fluid and dynamic.
3.3 Double Matty Flip
A Double Matty Flip takes the standard maneuver to the next level by performing two consecutive flips over the obstacle, adding complexity and duration to the trick.
How to Perform a Double Matty Flip:
- Complete the First Flip: Perform the first Matty Flip as usual.
- Re-Engage the Flip: After completing the first flip, immediately re-pitch the drone forward to initiate a second flip before leveling out.
Example:
A Double Matty Flip can be performed over larger obstacles like trees, poles, or even buildings, adding a dramatic flair to your freestyle routine.
